Oh how sad we are to have had our annual Christmas card returned today. In Legacy, I had to face the sad news that we feared was emminent knowing he was living at Lakewood. We shared many fond hours together as we traveled together. He always relished wherever he was. He loved the adventures we had in Alaska, filled with awe of the majesty of God's land. His excitment of passing through the Panama Canal 50 years to the day that he traveled on a Naval ship to the Pacific was a highlight that we all excitedly shared with him. We notified the Captian of this momentous occasion who then in turn specially recognized him in a special presentation and champaign. Oh the wonderful experiences we have had. Roland was with us! and everyone was touched by his perspectives in what he exuberantly enjoyed with others. His always good cheer and the grasp of life was contagious! He was so thoughtful of my Dad and husband to include them on a Richmond Braves baseball game each season. And, who could forget about his love of steamed crabs! Oh Roland, we cherish your memories and thank you for your dear friendship. Guys, know you will miss him but have a huge bank of very fond memories.

I worked for Mr. Houghton when I first went to Virginia Power over 40 years ago. He was one of the nicest people I ever worked for. He was extremely knowledgeable about the accounting operations of the Company and always willing to help others understand their work. As I moved to other departments during my years at the Company, I would see him occasionally and he would always speak and had that big smile on his face. My fondest memories are the times we would go to the Capri Restaurant after work. Mr. Houghton loved to eat good Italian food and he could eat a lot of it. My regards to his family at this time of loss but know that he touched many lives at Virginia Power. Sincerely, Quinto Vallei

Roland, a first cousin, was a good and faithful friend for over 80 years. In the late 1940's we use to sing together in a quartet. His bass voice was the best ever. He will be greatly missed.

I have always heard that people say nice things about a person after they are gone, but Dennis and I have always had nothing but nice things to say about Roland the entire time we knew him. He was a great man, friend and a good Christian. I know he is in Heaven with with all the other angels that have gone before him. Roland, may you rest in peace.

I had the privaledge of knowing Roland(Ho Ho) as we called him in Assisted Living Rose Building for a short period of time. He was a joy to all who came to know him. I loved to hear him laugh with his deep voice and to hear him sing. He had such a wonderful sense of humor and such a dedication to His family and Lord. I loved to hear him talk about his WWII experiences. I will miss him so much. He touched my heart and my life!

I visited with Mr. Houghton on a weekly basis through Chesapeake Bank at Lakewood. Though I only knew him for a few short months, I enjoyed visiting him and hearing his stories about his beloved late wife and family. He was always a gentleman, attempting to get out of his chair when I came in the room, and always gracious and thankful for my visits. Though he had certainly known his share of heartache, losing his beloved wife and son many years ago, he never failed to tell me what a great life he had had. I will miss him but not forget him, as he made my live better in the short time that I knew him. May his family be comforted by his memory. Sincerly, Dena Bonniwell

It was sad to read of Roland's passing. I remember an extremely fine and deep bass voice in the Three Chot Choir--now slenced. Helping to lead Christmas singing at TCPC's men's breakfast in December was one of the highlights of my memories of the man. He is missed. Thank you, Lord for this man.
