Charles Inman Obituary

Charles Priestley Inman, 85, of Richmond, known as "Bud" in the South and "Buddy" in Maine, died May 2, 2006 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Orono, Maine on September 12, 1920 to Charles and Hazel Inman, he endured the Maine winters, and enjoyed the summers at the family camp on Pushaw Pond with his brother, Harold Inman, and sister, Hazel Upton, who have predeceased him. Bud graduated from the University of Maine in 1943, where he was a member of Beta Thea Pi. He entered the Army, July 1943, and became a distinguished soldier in combat during Normandy, northern France, Ardennes, central Europe and Rhineland. As a First Lieutenant, "B" Company, 119th Regiment of the 30th Infantry Division, he earned two Silver Stars, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the Combat Infantry Badge. Following discharge from the Army in August 1945, he married his sweetheart, Evelyn Rose, who died in 1987. He is survived by two children, Charles P. Inman Jr. (Chuck) of Princeton, N.J., wife, Pam, and son, Charles P. Inman III; daughter, Carol Inman Novak, fiance, Patrick H. Darnell, of Rockville, Md., children, Diana Emami, Erika Wyse and Nicholas Novak. He is also survived by his wife, Dianne O'Kelley Inman. Bud began his career as a stockbroker, but later joined his father-in-law, Marion Rose, to manage Charles E. Brauer Co., wholesale grocer in Richmond. His career spanned duties as a sales representative to the trade through management and CEO. Always active in his church and community, Bud was a Cub Scout pack leader, Boy Scout leader, reader for the Virginia Voice Radio, and many others. He held various leadership positions including president and chairman of the board of the Virginia Wholesalers and Distributors Association, Southern Tobacco and Candy Association, and the National Candy Wholesalers (now American Wholesale Marketers Association). He continued to be an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Richmond, Va., and served as president in 1992-93. This association, and his many friends in Kiwanis, was his crowning achievement. The family would like to acknowledge the assistance of his many friends, especially John West, that enabled him to continue this association during his illnesses. Our gratitude to Netra G. Lighty for her friendship and personal assistance. During six years of his illnesses and medical issues, Bud received the best medical care and personal attention from the medical staff at Hunter Holmes McGuire Veteran's Medical Center. Our family would like to thank each person who cared for him, especially Dr. Deborah Panebianco and Dr. Franklin J. Zieve. The family will receive friends at the Bliley Funeral Homes' Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment Hollywood Cemetery. Following Bud's wishes, we will host a reception at the Virginia War Memorial, 621 S. Belvidere Blvd. Memorial donations can be made to the Kiwanis Club of Richmond, P.O. Box 12213, Richmond, Va. 23241, or Cat Adoption and Rescue Efforts, Inc. (CARE CATS), P.O. Box 2934, Richmond, Va. 23228.

Pop,

You have always been there for me throughout the years. I am going to miss the times you called to encourage me, or to simply say "hi".

We all know that you have gone to be with our Lord, and we count the days until we are together again.

Enjoy those long days on the lake with your Mamma, Daddy, brother and sister, and may His wind gently carry you along.

Love ya Pop,

C.P.
