John D. Barrow Jr.

BARROW, John D. Jr., 96, died on November 8, 2010 in Richmond. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Ellen W. Barrow. He is survived by his two daughters, Maria Barrow and Jo Ellen Dowdy (Otis); two grandsons, Zach Brittle (Rebecca) and Justin Brittle (Kristin); four great-granddaughters, Abi, Mackenzie, Mari and Reagan; and several loving nieces and nephews. A native of West Virginia, John was a 1936 graduate of Davis and Elkins College and spent his career as a chemist at DuPont. After retirement, he was a dedicated volunteer at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center and Meals on Wheels. He also served on the board of the Capital Area Agency on Aging and MCEF. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and worked with the BeFriender Ministry at Church of the Redeemer. We would like to thank the staff at the Hermitage Westwood and Odyssey Hospice for their loving care of our dad. His remains rest at Bliley's-Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue, Richmond, where family will receive friends on Thursday, November 11, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a Christian Wake service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 12, 7 p.m. at Catholic Church of the Redeemer on Meadowbridge Road in Mechanicsville with visitation starting at 6 p.m. Interment will take place on Saturday, November 12, 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1628 Matthews Street, Richmond.
