Carol Elizabeth Scates McManama

MCMANAMA, Carol Elizabeth Scates, was born on May 25, 1941 and died on August 7, 2009 with her family at her side. She went home to her heavenly father. She was predeceased by her father, Robert Lee Scates, who died before she was born; and her mother, Nellie Mozingo Scates; her brother, Charles Scates Roop; her daughter, Christy Love McManama; her grandson, Gary Allen Westerhouse Jr.; and her granddaughter, Michelle Nicole Ashworth. She is survived by her sisters, Kathy Little and Patricia Augeri, who she had searched for her entire life only to be reunited four months ago. It was her lifelong dream to find them. Also surviving are her daughters, Deborah R. Stonerook (Dave), Tammy M. Smith (Ron), and Bobbie M. Garden (Robert); her son, Thomas W. Rollins Jr.; her grandchildren, Michael A. Ashworth III, Taylor P. Ashworth, Taron McManama and Brian R. Stonerook; close friends including, Miss Vanita, Miss Kim, Millie and Donna Mallicote, Cynthia, and so many others. She had lived at Forest Brooke Apartments since 1982 and was known to all as "Nannie." She loved her children, all of them. Special thanks to Dr. Jannuzzi and the nurses at Heartland Hospice. Her family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at Bliley's Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Road. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Mozingo family cemetery in Colonial Beach, Va. She was our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and she will be missed by all.
