APPERSON, Vivian Mae, 85, of Richmond, Va., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on December 13, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Douglas Melvin Apperson I. She was born October 28, 1926 in Richmond, Va., as the daughter of Parker C. Bowery and Grace C. Levy. Vivian is survived by her three children, Douglas M. Apperson II and his wife, Dama Apperson, of Clinton, N.C., Daniel B. Apperson of Richmond, Va., and Tammie M. Arnold of Midlothian, Va.; six grandchildren, Douglas (Trey) Apperson III, Brandin Holleman, Lenzi Wilkins, Cody Nystrom, April Arnold and Skylar Arnold; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, June Hatfield; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, mother-in-law and aunt. She was also a nurturing caretaker, known to many as "Grandmommie" and looked after other people's children for many years in her Bon Air home. Vivian's honesty, friendliness and love of people were unforgettable characteristics and will be remembered by all who knew her. She was a member of Hopewell Methodist parish and she was previously employed by Leggett Meyers and Central Fidelity. The family will receive friends at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., Richmond, Va. 23225, on Thursday, December 15, 2011 from

2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where a funeral service will also take place on Friday, December 16, 2011 at

12 p.m. Entombment will follow immediately at Dale Memorial Park.

I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. I have such fond memories of Aunt Sallie's family and Grandma's family getting together when I was a child. Mama died on October 18 of this year and I am so sorry for your loss. I'm keeping you all in my prayers.
