Barbara-Jeanne Smethers

SMETHERS, Barbara- Jeanne, passed away peacefully May 6, 2010. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Philip R. Smethers Sr.; and son, Chuckie. She leaves behind to cherish her memory three sons, Philip R. Smethers Jr., Keith Smethers and his wife, Cindy, and Mickey Smethers and his wife, Teresa; five daughters, Cindy Gatewood and her husband, Bill, Vicki Edwards and her husband, Kenny, Margaret Smethers, Elizabeth Martin and Mary Moon; 18 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bill Curling and his wife, Kim, of Arizona. Barbara devoted her life to caring for children as a foster mother to over 122 children throughout the area and many others in need. She was a member of the Church of the Redeemer and the Elmont Ruritan Club. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the Woody Funeral Home - Atlee, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, where a memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 11 a.m. Private family interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hanover Court Appointed Special Advocates, P.O. Box 470, Hanover, Va. 23069.
