Alma Dungan Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Jul. 18 to Jul. 19, 2009.
DUNGAN, Alma Louise, 91, of Farmhan, Virginia, left her earthly home on Friday, July 17, 2009 for her appointment with the Great Physician. She is now in the presence of her God and with her husband, John Oldham, and two sons, John Winstead and David Rice Dungan, who arrived in Heaven before her. What a reunion they must be having as they gather around God's throne! Louise is survived by her two sons and their wives, William "Bill" and Judy, George and Jean; and her daughter-in-law, Sandra Dungan. She is also survived by four grandsons, James, Johnny and Dusty Dungan, and Eric Messer; and granddaughter, Sandy Dungan. She was the great-grandmother of Lindsey, Ryan, Austin, Nicholas, Madison and Devin Dungan. Mema Blue, as she was called, had a special place in her heart for each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Louise was retired from Levi Strauss Company and a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church. She attended Vacation Bible School this past week (as she did each year), and wow, what a promotion she was given at the end of VBS! Louise loved her Lord, and was active in all areas of her church. She loved her church family and was blessed with wonderful neighbors who were always there for her. God always made sure just the right person showed up at the right time for her. She never lacked for anything. God always provided. She was blessed beyond measure as were those who came in contact with her. The family will receive friends at Jones-Ash Funeral Home, Rainswood, Va., on Saturday, July 18, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of Louise's life will be held at Bethany Baptist Church, Callao, Va., on Sunday, July 19 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers are certainly welcomed or donations may be made to the Bethany Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Fund, P.O. Box 641, Callao, Virginia 22435. The family gives thanks to God for the blessing of a mom who taught them about Jesus and who not only talked the talk but walked the walk! And to all of her church family and neighbors, a big thanks. You made her life so bright and made her feel so loved. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Online remembrances may be made at jonesashfuneralhome.com.

Louise was such a special person, always smiling and such a pleasure to talk with. My mom (Elsie Hale) who was a friend of Louise talked about her often. She will truly be missed, but I know she is enjoying her celebration in heaven with our heavenly Father and her loved ones who are already there.

To The Dungan Family:

My condolences to you in the loss of
your Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She was a very special
lady always smiling, happy and a pleasure to talk with. May your hearts be filled with wonderful memories and joyful times together in the days that lie ahead. She will truly be missed by
all who knew and loved her. From time
to time I would get her to bake cakes
for me. No one could bake a Coconut
Cake like Mrs. Dungan!!!

To the family of Louise, my condolences. I worked with Louise at Levi's for 28 yrs and joined her each month at the Joy Club. She was so pleasant and a joy to be around. I will miss her.

Lou will always have a special place in my heart and memory. She made the travel trips so special with her smile and endurance and made me think if I could live as long as she that I could do as well. Bill and George - you should be so proud of your mom!! I know you were.
