Carol DOWELL Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Oct. 23 to Oct. 24, 2009.
DOWELL, Carol Scott "Mickee," 64, of Mechanicsville, passed suddenly October 21, 2009. She is survived by her husband, Marshall E. Dowell; daughter, Kim; son, Marshall Jr.; grandchildren, Jacob, Tanner, Fairan and Georgia; sisters, Marie Phillips and Eloise Edwards. Carol was an avid tennis player, who loved thoroughbred horse racing and was widely known as an excellent handicapper. She also named dozens of race horses, in particular, Scrappy T., who ran second in the 2005 Preakness. She was probably best known for her loving, caring affection for her family, in particular for her grandchildren, Jacob, Tanner, Fairan and Georgia, as well as any child she came into contact with. The family will receive friends Friday, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. Interment in Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children's Hospital on Brook Road.

Marshall,Kim, and Marshall, we are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Carol. She certainly was full of life, kindhearted, and had such spirit. I will always remember her leaving the Christmas tree up all year and decorating it for the seasons. Also, the strong coffee, she served when we visited. May you feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. May our God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Dear Marshall & Family:
Harry & I are so sorry to hear that Carol has passed away.
I have many good memories of playing tennis, swimming, playing cards and drinking her good strong coffee at your home. Carol was always a gracious hostess. I will always remember the year she left the Christmas tree up all year and decorated it for each holiday. She was very creative. She will be greatly missed.
God be with you and your family.

My heart goes out to the entire Dowell family, who have been like family to me for more years than I can remember. I can imagine my mother and Mickee are sharing quite a few stories and laughs about their respective sons. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences.
