To the family of Chuck which includes but is not limited to his blood relations, I send congratulations. For we, the happy ones who by the grace of God were allowed to share in the life of someone who so fully embodied the love and life God wishes us to share. I do not mean to say that that quick wit and loving hugs and smiles won’t be missed. But I for one am glad to know what we once had and be able to miss even if he was here only for a little while.

As we look back over time
We find ourselves wondering .....
Did we remember to thank you enough
For all you have done for us?
For all the times you were by our sides
To help and support us .....
To celebrate our successes
To understand our problems
And accept our defeats?
Or for teaching us by your example,
The value of hard work, good judgement,
Courage and integrity?
We wonder if we ever thanked you
For the sacrifices you made.
To let us have the very best?
And for the simple things
Like laughter, smiles and times we shared?
If we have forgotten to show our
Gratitude enough for all the things you did,
We're thanking you now.
And we are hoping you knew all along,
How much you meant to us.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To all who knew my brother. Chuck was many things to many people, but the one thing he was to all of us was that person you could call when you needed help with something. We all knew, even before we asked, what his answer would be. Chuck would always say yes. I told Chuck several times, “You need to learn to say no,” even though I knew what his response to that would be. He would always say, “I can’t. If I don’t do it, it won’t get done.” As far as I know, he never took my advice. That is why he was the person he was and why so many people who knew him, depended on him and loved him. In the days to come, how many times will the thought flash through our minds, “I will call Chuck he will help me with that.” We will stop and remember him, a smile will cross our face, and then we will wonder, “Who will help me now?”

Chuck was one of the finest, straight shooting individuals I have ever had the privilege of working with. He was also one of the most welcoming, caring and helpful co-workers I could hope for. My fondest memory of Chuck was when he would come to service something in our area of the building, and he would say, "If you wanted to see me, all you had to do was call. You didn't have to break something just to get me to come down here and see you." Chuck was truly one of a kind, and I hope that we all get to see him again someday in the everafter. My thoughts go out to his family, and Powhatan County Schools.
