I was in Martin's supermarket today Feb 2,2011 and I ran into a friend who knew Dee Dee - I asked about her because I haven't seen or heard from her in awhile. When she told me she had passed I was in shock and had to leave the store immediately. I ran to my car and tears started rolling down my face the way they are right now as I am writing this message. My name is Ms. Brenda and I met Dee Dee shortly after I moved here from NY 20 years ago. I used to babysit Deja while she worked in her shop on north avenue. I would like to get in touch with Deja. If anyone knows of her whereabouts please pass on the word that I am looking for her. My number is 804 334-1166 (cell). Dee Dee was a beautiful and talented sista and will never be forgotten Aka Mz.VA SLIM:)

I was so shocked to hear that Dee Dee passed away. I met Dee Dee through my sister in law because they worked at the same salon. When Dee Dee found out I live in NJ she asked me to do her a big favor - ever time I come to Richmond please bring her some White Castle Hamburgers - that brought her the biggest smiles and memories while eating those burgers. Dee Dee - when I pass White Castle now - I truly think of you and you will never be forgotten.

I am truly heartbroken to hear this news. Dee Dee was a wonderful person. When I first met Dee Dee, I instantly knew I wanted her to be my beautician. She gave me the nickname "Squeaks" because she said when I talk I sound squeaky. For about four years I had lost contact with Dee Dee and I ran into her daughter Deja and was able to reconnect with her. It was so ironic because I just said I wish I knew Dee Dee's number and wondered if she was still doing hair because I missed her doing mine. That same day, my mom and I saw her daughter. God works in mysterious ways.
I just learned of the news today from a co-worker, that I referred to her. I didn't want to believe it. Now that I know, I am so sorry I missed the opportunity to see her again. She was outgoing, fun and a loving person. I was just talking about her to my best friend last week, and to learn about this news is devestating. My prayers go out to her son Hadji, daugther LoDeja and entire family. Dee Dee I will miss you and you will never be forgotten. I'm going to miss the way you hooked my hair up because no one was good with a pair of scissors like you. Your passing has taught me that when someone crosses your mind, pick up the phone and give them a call because you never know if you will ever speak to them or see them again. I wish I would have picked up the phone. I love you sister. I know you are in a good place.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Dee Dee, what a lovely, funny, good spirited women, she will be truly missed. It is only today that I am finding out about her passing, I went to the shop to see if she would be able to take me today for a last minute hair appt. and then they told me the news, well words can not describe what I felt when I heard she had passed on.
She always could make me laugh and we would always cut up whenever I would come to get my hair done, I have only been going to her for a little bit over a year, but it seem like we knew each other much longer then that.
That was how she was, making every person feel like family. She would always find the time to take me in whenever I would call her for appt. She knew I was always traveling and she would say "Come on baby, I have to get you all pretty for your next business trip, so you can look business like, in front of all them white folks" That was My girl Dee Dee.
I miss you Dee Dee, not only because you did my hair, but because you were one of the keep it real sistas. You wont be forgotten.
To her son and daughter and grand daughter, you all were the joy of her life, she spoke about you all with great pride and joy. You were her biggest accomplishment in life, you were her life.
Reach for God hands when it get to hard to bare and know that he will always be with you to help you with the pain of missing your mother. God is a very present help, relay on him to help you thru this. May God bless each one of you always.

I am so deeply saddened by the loss of Dee Dee. She was such a loving, kind and thoughtful person. Feeding the homeless to just accomodating you for a hair appointment. I will always remember our conversations and how she would light up when she talked about her new granddaughter. How she would talk about how proud she was of her children. My thoughts and prayers go out to her entire family. Dee-Dee I will always remember your beautiful spirit, your smile and your laughter. PRICELESS!!!

LaDeja: I am heartbroken to hear of Dee Dee's demise. I only found out yesterday. Not only was Dee Dee my beautician from North Avenue to Brook Road - but my good friend. We shared so many joys and laughters and just stuff. Her laughter and smiles will be sorely missed believe me. I am just almost at a loss for words right now. My heart is aching because I was not able to say a proper good-bye or farewell. You are at sea. I remember your graduation from TJ and how proud of you she was and me too. Deja - may God be with you, your family and may you rejoice in the beautiful legacy she left with you. It wil be forever with you. May you always continue to shine as she did. I know that you will. Love always, Jeanne Franklin and Daughter Shakena
