Delvina "Nell" Stubbs

STUBBS, Delvina "Nell", born May 27, 1925, died peacefully on June 29, 2009 at her home. After graduating from high school, she worked for the federal government as a secretary. She excelled in typing and was an expert in Gregg shorthand. She married William T. Stubbs in 1946. In 1948, she resigned from the federal government to care for her newborn twins. She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, William T. "Billy" Stubbs; daughters, Gwen Wahlberg and husband, Jon, of Midlothian, Lynn Lamonte and husband, Bob, of Reno, Nev., Nancy Franke and husband, Erwin, of Midlothian, Jane Carlucci and husband, Ralph, of Short Pump, and Susan Stubbs and husband, George Wilson, of Petersburg; son, William T. "Billy" Stubbs Jr. of Richmond; grand-daughters, Lisa Marie Vanderlofske of Half Moon Bay, Calif., Lori Knotts and husband, Dan, of Anchorage, Alaska, Christine Franke of Midlothian; grandsons, Eric Wahlberg of Woodbridge, Sean Wahlberg and wife, Missy, of Midlothian, Peter Franke of Midlothian, Alex Carlucci of Short Pump; and three great-grandsons. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Dolores Coghill; and nine nieces and nephews. She was confirmed at Sacred Heart Cathedral and received first communion at St. Peter's. Her love of her family never wavered. Her family will miss her smile, her kindness and love. The family extends its thanks to St. Francis Cardiac Care Unit and Bon Secours Hospice for their kindness and care of Nell. A special thanks is reserved for daughters, Susan, Gwen, Jane and Nancy for the loving care of their mother in the final days. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 4400 Beulah Road on Tuesday, July 7, at 11 a.m. Private burial at Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia to follow. Nell had heart disease for the past 20 years, therefore, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association.
