Derwood Eubank "D.E." Wright Jr.

WRIGHT, Derwood Eubank "D.E." Jr., 56, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, went to be with his Lord on Saturday morning, April 10, 2010. Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his father, Derwood Eubank Wright Sr. He is survived by his mother, Laura Nuckols Wright; sister, Linda Beasley; brother, Robert Wright (Sharon); nephews, Philip Wright (Melissa), Andrew Wright, William Wright and David Beasley. Mr. Wright was born in Richmond, Va. on March 23, 1954. Mr. Wright spent the majority of his adult life in the Roanoke area and was a faithful employee of Roanoke College for 21 years. Derwood loved ice hockey, especially the Pittsburgh Penguins and was a season ticket holder and faithful supporter of the Roanoke Express; his booming voice could be heard cheering for his Express from section 8 at the Roanoke Civic Center. A devoted "Friend of Bill" (8/29/1985), Mr. Wright was tireless in his efforts to help others as he had been helped. He lived his life happy, joyous and free. He was well loved and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11537, Alexandria, Va. 22312 or www.diabetes.org in Derwood's memory. A service celebrating his life will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Donna Hopkins Britt officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond, with a graveside service at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne Marker officiating. The family will receive friends Monday 6 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
