Dorothy Barney

BARNEY, Dorothy Buchanan, 84, formerly of Ashland, Va., passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard F. Barney Sr.; her parents, Will Edgar and Ivy Buchanan; and her brother, Will Edgar Buchanan Jr. She is survived by her son, Richard F. Barney Jr. and his girlfriend, Angela B. Gittings; her daughters, Anne Harper Barney and Susan Barney Hoffman and her husband, Bill. She is also survived by her grandson, Ian Buchanan Barney; her brother-in-law, Dr. William Harper Barney and his wife, Vivian, of Lynchburg, Va.; three nephews, Harper, David and Richard Barney; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Carr Buchanan; and niece, Cathy Buchanan Ross. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at Independence Christian Church in Ashland on Wednesday, January 5, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1742 E. Parham Road, Richmond, Va. 23228, or the Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Cox Road, Glen Allen, Va. 23060. The family would like to thank St. Mary's Hospital and the Hospice and the Lynmoore for the care and concern they showed to Mrs. Barney. The West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home is assisting the family.
