PENDLETON, Dorothy Wheaton, of Matthews, N.C., was born on September 15, 1916, in Bridgeton, N.J., and died on October 22, 2009, at the Hospice House in Monroe, N.C. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, William G. Pendleton Jr.; her parents, William and Nettie Wheaton; and her sisters, Frances Wheaton and Arabella Maier. Survivors include her daughter, Beth Miller of Charlotte, N.C., and her children, Laura Mancillas and her husband, Anthony, of Germantown, Md., and John Miller and his wife, Angela, of Christiansburg, Va.; her son, William G. Pendleton III and his wife, Debra, of Matthews, N.C., and their children, Emily Pendleton of Greensboro, N.C., and Austen Pendleton of Matthews, N.C.; and her sister, Mary Harris of Bridgeton, N.J. Dorothy was a graduate of Goldey Beacon Business College. She was an administrative assistant for Wilson Contracting Company and secretary for the Personnel Director of the Alfred I. DuPont School District, both in Wilmington, Del. After moving to Richmond, Va. in 1980, she was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Dorothy loved flowers, gardening, reading and visiting with others. A service to celebrate her life will be held Monday at 1 p.m. October 26, 2009 at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, Va. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Memorials should be made to the National MS Society, 9801 I Southern Pine Blvd., Charlotte, N.C. 28273.
