Edward L. "Ned" Flanagan Jr.

FLANAGAN, Edward L. "Ned," Jr., 86, of Gastonia, died Saturday, September 18, 2010 at home. A native of Richmond, Va., he was the son of the late Dr. E. LatanŠ Flanagan and Louise Chiles Williams. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Ann Boatwright Flanagan and Nora Mae Flanagan; sister, Katherine Worthington; and stepson-in-law, Harry Ormand. During World War II he enlisted in the Army and served 45 months until discharged in August 1946. Ned was a graduate of the College of William & Mary and came to Gastonia in 1956 to work for Public Service Co. of N.C., where he remained until he retired as an officer and director there. He was a devoted member of Southminster Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Johnnie F. Flanagan; sister, Margaret Grayson Flanagan of Gastonia; sons, Greer L. Flanagan and wife, Lori, of Powhatan, Va., E. Lat Flanagan III and wife, Amy, of Gastonia; daughter, Frances L. Flanagan of Minneapolis, Minn.; special family friend, Laura Olson Burns of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandchildren, Victoria C. Flanagan and Caylea E. Flanagan of Gastonia and Grace A. Flanagan and Faith G. Flanagan of Powhatan, Va.; stepdaughters, Debra Ormand of Gastonia, Janet Dimeo and husband, Jeff, of Gastonia; stepgrandson, Latt Ormand. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Southminster Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jerry Bron officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.
