My first memory of the Welchons family was when I was a very little girl and a dog came to my grandmother’s back door. When my grandmother opened the door to play with the dog (Wags) he had a sign on him that said, “Please do not feed me.” That was the start of many years of fond memories with the Welchons. When I was a little older after we had moved in with my grandmother, there was a knockout guy in a trench coat that used to walk past my house every day coming home from school. For a 10 year old girl, that was love at first sight. I begged my mother to buy me a couple of outfits like older girls wore in the afternoon so that I could casually be sitting on his curb or his front steps when he would come home from school. Every day as he went into the house he would always speak to me and always remembered my name. After George A’s accident, when he was in a body cast for a year, he was always so nice to me each day when I came to see him. When he got well, I didn’t see as much of him for several years, but when I became and older teenager, he would stop by and visit us on a regular basis. He was always nice and I loved riding with him in his many wonderful cars. As time went on, I got married and my mother would keep me informed about how he was. It saddens me to have heard of his passing because he has always been and still will be a shining memory in my heart. My deepest sympathy to you Suzanne, and to the rest of your family.
