BATES, Helen, Mackey, 81, of Charles City, departed this life Novem ber 4, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Bates. She is survived by four sons, Randolph H. Bates (Edna), Charles E. Bates (Brenda), Samuel O. Bates Sr. (Bernadean), and Bernard L. Bates (Cynthia); one sister, Martha Christian; twelve grandchildren, Kristin Cone, Jessica Bates, Joshua Bates, Darnell Jones, Helena Bates, Marlene Moody, Daneille Williams, Yvette Easley, Samuel Bates Jr., Antonio Reed, Ivory Smith, and Alfonso Jefferson; eight great-grandchildren, seven nieces, one devoted, Viola Brunson; five nephews, and a host of extended family and friends. Remains rest at J. Leroy Charity Funeral Home, Charles City. Homegoing services will be held on Monday, November 8, 2:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, Charles City.
