John CINGRANELLI Obituary

CINGRANELLI, John Sr., of Mechanicsburg, Pa., died November 1, 2009. He was born in Rome, N.Y. to Luigi and Vincenza Cicconi Cingranelli. He lived there until he enlisted in the Army in 1942. He was sent to Germany, where he lost his leg while fighting on May 8, 1945, the last day of WWII in Europe. John was honored with the Purple Heart for his service to his country. Following military service, John returned to Rome, N.Y. where he was active in the DAV. He was an officer of the Department of New York DAV and a member of the National Amputation Chapter 76 DAV in New York. He was also a member of DAV Chapter 50 in Richmond, Va. John is survived by his wife, Anne Buchanan Cingranelli, residing in Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and his five children, John Cingranelli Jr. and Rick Cingranelli of Albany, N.Y., Alecia Brognano of Gainesville, Va., Carol Cingranelli of New Cumberland, Pa. and Judy Dudley of Raleigh, N.C. John is also survived by two brothers, Angelo and Louis Cingranelli; and one sister, Norma Frank all of Rome, N.Y. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, November 5, 2009 in St. Ann's Catholic Church Ashland, Va. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Signal Hill Memorial Park, Hanover, Va.
