I remember your son's obituary from the Times-Dispatch and now from the U VA magazine. What a terrible loss for you and your family and I'm so very sorry. It makes me want to hug my almost 20 year old son that much harder.

Although I didn't know your son, his life is an inspiration to us all. I pray that you will be able to pick up the threads of your lives and remember the happy times. When I looked at the memorial video, he had a smile in almost every picture, truly a testament to his strength and courage. He was a remarkable person and I know you must be so proud of him. My heart goes out to you. God bless all of you.

Donna, Billy, Amanda & Benjamin,
May the good Lord's peace and comfort envelope all of you today, tomorrow, and in the coming days and months. Joseph is smiling down with his bright, sparkling eyes, hockey stick in hand, and saying, "We'll be together again soon enough." He'll be an AMAZING guardian angel because he had the best examples in all of you here on earth.

To the Roberts family,
I met Joseph years ago when he was on my brother Shane Austin's hockey team. I thought then as I do now that he was a remarkable young man. He never let being sick keep him from playing a game he loved. May your fondest memories bring you peace through this difficult time. Our family has you in our prayers!

Roberts family, you are such amazing and strong people. Joseph was a true gift to the world and the hockey community. He was such an amazing hockey player and always gave 110% on the ice. I loved sharing memories through Robert & Joseph's hockey career together. He always had a smile on his face, and was such an inspiration to the team! Now, he is breathing easy playing hockey with Robert in heaven. He will be truly missed, and he has put such an impact on my life because of how strong he was. He did what he loved, and never let anything get in the way of his dreams! I'll never forget you Joseph. Roberts family- please stay strong, and if you EVER need a thing...you know who to call!
