Lawrence Kanak

KANAK, Lawrence, age 90, entered his heavenly home on December 17, 2009. Lawrence was born November 13, 1919 in Prince George, Va. to John and Amelia Kanak. He attended school and grew up on his family's farm in Prince George with his 10 siblings. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Henry, George, Dan, and Bill; and sisters, Helen, Christine, Agnes, and Rose. He is survived by his wife, who was the love of his life and best friend for over 62 years, Lonie P. Kanak. He is also survived by his dear brother, Ben Kanak of Prince George, Va.; his brother-in-law, Robert Pugh of Durham N.C.; devoted nephews, Stephen Lawrence Tyson and John Thomas Tyson, and his wife, Vickie, and their children, John Thomas Tyson Jr. and Jennifer Lynn Tyson. He leaves behind numerous other nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was the owner of Rackley's Radio and TV Company in Hopewell, Va. for over 40 years and was actively involved in the VA Professional Electronics Association where he served as secretary and president of the Tri-Cities Chapter. He was also a member of Meadowbrook County Club. He re-dedicated his life to Christ several years ago and was a member of Walmsley Boulevard United Methodist Church, where he was a Trustee and member of the Administrative Council. Lawrence will always be remembered for his warm hugs, endearing smile, and kind and generous spirit. He was a true gentleman and had a heart for people. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be Monday, December 21 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). Services will be held on December 22 at 11 a.m. at Walmsley Boulevard United Methodist Church. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
