Marion Renalds Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Dec. 21, 2009.
RENALDS, Marion Clarke, 79, of Richmond, passed away peacefully in her home Friday, December 18, 2009. She is survived by her son, Marsden and his wife, Ginny, and their two children, Lara Staley and David Smith; her daughter, Virginia Edmunds and her husband, Holt; two grandchildren, Easley and Elizabeth; and her niece, Patricia Claytor and her husband, John, and their children, Jack and Grace. Marion was a caregiver to many children over several decades. These lives she influenced reflect her devotion to nurturing and her generous spirit. Her utmost passion was gardening. Strangers often stopped to admire and photograph her exquisite flowers. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we suggest a donation made in her honor to the Rosedale Civic Association Beautification Project, 1901 W. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23227.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Marion's passing. My son will be a better man because of her influence when he was a baby and young boy. She indeed grew a beautiful garden but none of it compares to HER beauty inside and out. I know Marion's beautiful spirit is making the heavens glisten a little more today. Now Marion begins her new journey with God. We will miss you. Thank you for what you gave our family.

So sad to hear of Marion's passing. She was truly a good soul and I know that my son's life (and those of the many other children she nurtured), is better for having known her. She has left behind a host of wonderful memories (sitting on the swing by the sandpile while the children play, kids scooting around on those fabulous heavy duty tricycles, the pinwheel garden, and of course, her tapioca). Thank you Marion. You will be missed.

We are neighbors to Virginia and Holt and are very sorry to hear that Mrs. Renalds' passed away. We send our condolences to all of the family. Losing a parent is hard. But Mrs. Renalds love of gardening lives on in Virginia's yard. Through her daughter, its evident what a wonderful woman Mrs. Renalds was.

Mrs. Renalds will be missed. She was a person of character, kind to all. Her yard was so beautiful for all to enjoy. ...and, she sure could cook. Many will miss her deviled eggs and tapioca.
