CASTALDO, Nancy Tate, 86, of Red Oak, Va., a much beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on November 9, 2010, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston. Born in Red Oak on June 4, 1924, Nancy was the daughter of the late Charles Bruce Adams and Claudia Helen Toombs Adams. She was the widow of Wilton Curtis Tate and Herman Armando Castaldo. Nancy was preceded in death by her brothers, Herbert, Clarence and Raymond Adams. She is survived by her dear son, Robert E. Tate; and two precious grandchildren, Shauna Nicole Tate and Rachel Lillian Tate of Red Oak. After graduating in 1941 from the second graduating class at Randolph Henry High School, Nancy attended the Pan American Business School in Richmond. She was employed as a secretary for the Virginia Alcohol and Beverage Control (ABC) Board before entering State Teachers College (STC), now known as Longwood University. After graduating from STC, she taught Business Education at Wakefield High School for two years; the seventh grade in the Wylliesburg Elementary School in Charlotte County for 16 years; and then she transferred to Bacon District Elementary School where she taught special reading to the students in grades one through four for 16 years. In 1987 she retired from teaching in the Charlotte County School System after 32 years. Ms. Castaldo was a lifelong member of the Antioch Baptist Church where she served as president of the Women's Missionary Society, Sunday School Teacher, pianist and choir member. She also served on numerous committees, such as the social and the Christmas pageant committees. She will be remembered for having touched and enriched the lives of all who knew her. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Antioch Baptist Church, Barnesville Highway, Red Oak, Va. Interment will follow at the Antioch Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.wclfh.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or the American Cancer Society.
