Norene SKIPWITH Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Oct. 30, 2009.
SKIPWITH, Norene Humphrey, 92, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2009 at Our Lady of Hope. She was born June 5, 1917, in Pax, West Virginia, the fifth child of John Tilden and Nina Ellen Humphrey. While growing up, Norene's friends and family lovingly nicknamed her "Ennie." Ennie and her family moved to Richmond in the 1940s. For many years before retiring, she was a valued employee at Universal Leaf Tobacco Company. A lover of the outdoors, Ennie was a member of Maymont, and enjoyed time there with her family and friends. When she no longer drove, her niece, Zoe Anne, continued to take her there and devoted countless hours of love and companionship over the years. Ennie was preceded in death by four sisters, Zoehanna Green, her dearest and closest sister, and Nadine Humphrey, Belva Saber, Elva Peters; and one brother, Julian Humphrey. She is survived by four nieces, Zoe Anne Green of Richmond, Ellen Mclees and her husband, Robert, of Seattle, Karen Saber and her husband, Di, of Tucson, Jean Rae Peters of New York; and one nephew, Jon Davis and his wife, Ruthanne, of Richmond. Additional survivors include three great-nephews, Jon, John and Ian; one great-niece, Kristina; three great-great-nephews, and two great-great-nieces. We wish to give special recognition and loving thanks to longtime and devoted caregiver, Frechena Howard. A remembrance of Ennie's life will be held at the Children's Farm at Maymont on Monday, November 2 at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Maymont Foundation.

I have so many great memories of visiting Auntie Ennie in Richmond as a young child with my parents Marilyn and Robert Skipwith King Jr. Auntie Ennie was my Godmother and I will treasure those memories. With love, Suzy King Berschback

I was sorry to hear about Noreen. I just received a note from my father Bob King. My family used to visit her and George every year as we were growing up. We lived in Michigan, and My Grand Father was Robert Skipwith King. I made several visits in the last 20 years to see Noreen, and it was always nice to visit with her and have a coffee and tell her of my travels. My Father Bob King grew up in Richmond, and George's Mother Susie and my Grand Father were Brother and sister. I will miss Auntie Ennie, as we used to call her.
