Opal J. Dickerson

DICKERSON, Opal J., 92, of Richmond, passed away June 18, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl D. Dickerson Sr.; her sisters, Celia Wright, Peggy Gelzer and Louise Grinder; and her best friends, Louise Davenport, Georgie Sullivan, Eleanor Wise and Mrs. Fred Swindell. She is survived by her son, Doug Dickerson Jr.; daughters, Tanga L. Dickerson and Sheila D. Nestor and husband, Tony; grandchildren, Jonathan and Christina; nieces and nephews, Gary, John, Joann, Jim and Tommy; and friend, Eddie Sullivan. A special thanks to Colleen for her help and devotion to our mother. Opal worked many years until retirement at Standard Drug Store on 1st and Broad Streets. The family received friends on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Maury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Children's Hospital.
