Robert Brand

BRAND, Robert "Dr. Bob" Lee, 72, of Prince George, died on Monday, April 26, 2010, following a long struggle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Tucker Brand Sr. and Ollie Mae Mullins Brand; and five siblings. Dr. Brand attended Bridgewater College and transferred to the University of Virginia, where he graduated in 1959. A 1964 graduate of the Medical College of Virginia, School of Dentistry, his practices spanned 30 years in the communities of Buena Vista, Chincoteague Island and Petersburg. He was a devout member of Blandford United Methodist Church. He was involved in other organizations, which include: the Thomas Jefferson Society of Alumni, Lion's Club, Kiwanis, PCDC - Petersburg Community Development Corporation, an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, Lay Leader in the Methodist Church, Choir Director, The Petersburg Festival Chorus, the Cockade City Bourbon Tasting Society, the Clan Irwin Association, The 5:05 Club at The Brickhouse Run, and creator of "Thursday at the Works," which later became Thursday in Old Towne. Dr. Brand was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He had a lighthearted spirit, a quick wit, as well as an eclectic appreciation of music. Dr. Brand relished great friends, good books and fine bourbons. He is survived by his wife, Sharon K. Brand; daughter, Merit Brand Wolff of Hendersonville, N.C.; son, Daniel W. Brand of Smithfield, Va.; grandchildren, Brandon, MaryKent, Camryn and Nathan; brother, Rev. Richard A. Brand and his wife, Rebecca; and 14 nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Blandford United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jacob Sahms and Rev. Richard A. Brand officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2010 at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis, Suite F, 3227, 1659 Branham Lane, San Jose, Calif. 95118, or the Petersburg Festival Chorus, 545 High Street, Petersburg, Va. 23803.
