Roy Collins Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Apr. 24, 2010.
COLLINS, Roy E. "Nutty Buddy," went to be with the Lord peacefully, with his family and friends by his side, on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. He is survived by his cousin/ sister, Cindy Pauley and husband, Glenn; the Fibbiani family and Collins family, Floyd Harvey and wife, Kimberly, Taylor Ann, Cassie and Josh Corker; as well as a multitude of close friends; and his faithful dog, Buddy. Buddy never met a stranger so if you ever spoke to him, he considered you his friend. Buddy loved hunting, fishing and music. He played the harmonica, guitar and keyboard and would always have a song for you. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and loved his church family. Buddy was a Christian and he accepted the Lord with all his heart and soul. May he be an inspiration to all who knew him. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Services will be held at Hopewell Baptist Church, 5061 Hopewell Road, New Kent, Va. 23124, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2010. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Hopewell Baptist Church Building Fund; Buddy wanted to see them build a new church so more could join in fellowship and find peace as he did when he accepted the Lord into his heart.

I am so very sorry to hear about Buddy. I'm the office manager at the Virginia Cancer Institute and took to Buddy the first day I met him . I wish I would have know sooner, so I could have attended the service. Buddy was very brave everytime he came to our office; no matter what news he got. I loved helping him in the office and walking him back to his car. He had the "favorite patient" status with me. He will be very missed by all of the staff here as well. He finally had us all trained to not say "Mr. Collins", but just Buddy.

God Bless,
Christy Gibson

Buddy will be greatly missed. When I think of him ,I only think of all his sweet, kind and precious ways and how he could always put a smile on my face.I have beautiful memories of this Special man.Buddy would give you his last dollar and would always be the first one to lend a hand to help someone.I know in my heart that Jesus has his loving arms around Buddy and has taken all his pain away and has made him a very special Angel in Heaven.I know when he was here with all of us, he was an Angel to me and alot of other people. When you think of Buddy, SMILE and know that he is in the loving care of our Lord Jesus Christ and we all will be able to see him again one day.Take care and God Bless.Debbie Baldwin Funai
