GOODE, Shirley Woodson, 78, of Mechanicsville, passed away September 10, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Welch Woodson and Linwood A. Woodson. She is survived by her loving husband, Herbert E. Goode, of 59 years; a dedicated sister, Rose W. Butler (Kenneth); niece, Melisa B. Whaley (Lee); nephew, Charles W. Hechler (Jean); and other family members and friends. A special thanks to her wonderful caregivers, Stacy, Stephanie, Shannon, and Sarah, and thanks to the Heartland Hospice. Shirley was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church, and retired from May Cleaners and Tuxedos. Family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, September 12 at the Mechanicsville Chapel Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, where services will be held 11 a.m. Monday. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.

TO THE FAMILY OF SHIRLEY GOODE, I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS, YOU ALL HAVE BEEN IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS THRU THIS DIFFICULT TIME. I ONLY GOT THE PLEASURE OF KNOWING SHIRLEY THESE PAST TWO MONTHS WHILE CARING FOR HER AND GREW TO LOVE HER AND HER FAMILY. SHE WAS A VERY SWEET LADY AND I ENJOYED THE LITTLE TIME I DID GET TO KNOW SHIRLEY, SHE WILL BE MISSED DEARLY.

Shirley was always loving and kind to my family, especially my son Caleb. Her bright eyes sparkled with life long after her body had worn out. She was a sweet Lady, a blessing to her husband Herbert and all her family and friends. God bless her and rest in peace and comfort.
