Thomas Phillips Obituary

Published by Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home on Apr. 29, 2010.
PHILLIPS, Thomas B. IV, 22, of Georgetown, died on April 24, 2010 as a result of an accident in Washington, D.C. Thomas was born on December 24, 1987 in Houston, Texas, to Rhea G. and Thomas Burfoot "Tad" Phillips III. Thomas later moved with his family to Oxford, Miss., where he came to love the outdoors, riding four wheelers, hunting, fishing and joining friends at the lake. He was a diehard University of Mississippi football fan. Tom attended Northwest Community College in Oxford and Collins College in Phoenix, Ariz., before relocating to Alexandria, Va. Most recently Tom lived in Georgetown where he was self-employed as a communications consultant. Thomas possessed a great sense of humor and was a constant source of laughter and entertainment for family and friends. Known for his comedy routines and entertaining dialogue, Tom was always fun to be around and loved being the life of the party. Thomas is survived by his mother, Rhea G. Killinger of Alexandria; father, Thomas Burfoot Phillips III of Virginia Beach, Va.; stepfather, Dale R. Killinger of Alexandria, Va.; stepmother, Marina Liacouras Phillips; stepbrother, Jeff Bouley, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; maternal grandmother, Hazel Ione Grable of Orlando, Fla.; paternal grandmother, Joan Wharton Phillips of Richmond, Va.; his extended family in Pennsylvania, most notably stepgrandmother, Anna K. Shope of Harrisburg, Pa.; and stepgrandfather, Wade W. Killinger of Jonestown, Pa.; many aunts, uncles and cousins; his faithful dogs, Maxwell and Dixie; and his feline, BooBoo. Tom had deep pride in his family history and the common bonds which linked him with his many relatives. Visitation is scheduled Friday, April 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Everly Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria, Va., where services will be held Saturday, May 1 at 10 a.m. Friends are welcome to visit with the family Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. Interment to follow at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Alexandria, Va. In lieu of flowers, the families request that memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Not how did he die, but how did he live?
Not what did he gain, but what did he give?
These are the units to measure the worth
Of a man as a man, regardless of birth.
Not, what was his church, nor what was his creed?
But had he befriended those really in need?
Was he ever ready, with word of good cheer,
To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?
Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say,
But how many were sorry when he passed away.
