VIRGINIA HALE Obituary

HALE, Virginia Brown, age 94, departed her earthly life on October 22, 2010 at the Ashland Nursing Home and Rehab. She was preceded in death by her parents, Effie B. and J.R.C. Brown; her brothers, Callaway, Henry and Ralph Brown; her sister, Anne Gwaltney; her husband, Richard T. Hale; and grandson, Mark Hale. She is survived by sons, Richard Fred Hale (Betty), of Staunton, Michael Hale (Debbie), of Elmont; and daughters, Barbara Carr (Paul), of Elmont, and Nina Hale (Smitty), of Quinton; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Virginia was a native of the Elmont area of Hanover County and enjoyed telling stories of her childhood, about swimming in the Chickahominy River and riding the Richmond-Ashland trolley to Elmont School and later to Ashland High School. In her later years she moved to Richmond and was a retiree from Richmond Public Schools where she worked at Binford Middle School. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 24, 2010 from 2 to 5 p.m. Services will be held on Monday, October 25, 2010, 11 a.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home - Reid Chapel, with burial at Woodland Cemetery. Reverend Elizabeth Givens will be officiating. Condolences may be registered at www.nelsencares.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank Bon Secours Hospice for their loving care to our mother during her final weeks.
