Vivian Toman Obituary

Published by Bliley's Funeral Home - Chippenham on Nov. 19, 2009.
TOMAN, Vivian "Capron," 68, of Wilbraham, Mass., lost her courageous two-year fight against Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS) on Saturday, November 14, 2009. Typical of her unique style, she fought her battle against ALS on her own terms. She was cared for at home and surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Richmond, Virginia on April 29, 1941. Vivian was the daughter of the late George and Louise (Cole) Capron. She graduated from Manchester High School in Richmond, Virginia. Vivian started her career as a secretary at E.I. DuPont de Nemours in Richmond where she met her husband, Tom Toman. After their marriage, they lived and raised their family in New York City, Vienna, Virginia, and Medford, N.J. before finally settling in Wilbraham, Mass. Vivian worked as a Word Processing Manager at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, retiring in 1999. She leaves her devoted husband of 41 years, Thomas Toman; her loving daughters, Kimberly Dacey and her husband, James, Lori Jacocks and her husband, Kyle, all of Richmond, Virginia, and Tracy LaFleche and her husband, Wayne, of East Longmeadow; her cherished grandchildren, Jeremy, Juli, Kyle, and Kendrick LaFleche, J.T. Dacey, and Savannah and Spencer Jacocks. Graveside committal services are Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Maury Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia. For those that prefer, memorial donations may be sent to Compassionate Care ALS, P.O. Box 1052, West Falmouth, Mass. 02547. Arrangements at the direction of Bliley's- Chippenham Chapel.

Dear Tom, Kim, Lori, and Tracy,
I am so sorry to here about your Mom.
We worked together at Mass Mutual. We would go out for supper or lunch we would talk about shopping and grandchildren for hours.
She was a huge support to me after my husband died. We made a trip down to Virginia, and I stayed over at her daughters on route to Florida, and visited with little Savannah.
I remarried two years ago and that was the last time I saw her. I had no idea what she was going through. It breaks my heart to think I didn't see her before she passed. She has been on my mind a lot this week I intended to call her. I asked someone today that went to her church if they knew her and they told me her funeral was last week. I can't begin to tell you how terrible I felt. Please forgive me for not being there. I did'nt even know she was so ill.
God Bless you all and I pray you have comfort in knowing she's in a better place and has no more pain.
She will always have a special place in my heart.

Dear Tom, Kim, Lori, and Tracy,
My heart is saddened by Vivian's passing and your loss. Your mom was a huge part of what made my childhood golden. I have so many fond memories and treasure the time that I had growing up with your mom as a second mom. I loved her very much. I imagine she has already met up with my mother and the two of them are up in heaven in cahoots laughing and figuring out what their next project will be! How fun for the both of them.
You will be in my prayers as you go through this difficult time.
With love, prayers, and sympathy,
Peggy Morgan Tyree

To The Toman Family:
I was saddened when I read the paper and saw that Vivian passed away. I met Vivian through Tuwanda many years ago at MassMutual. Vivian was such a sweet lady who had no problem sharing her recipes. May God comfort you and keep you in the days to come.

To The Toman Family,
We were so sorry to hear of Vivan's passing. In the short time that we had the opportunity to get to know her, there was never a time where it was not her goal to make others feel good and feel special. She was a woman that was so secure in herself and in who she was that she wass able to give 100% of herself to others. Her unfailing dedication to her family serves as an inspiration to us of what it means to lead a family, and to do so with conviction and love at the core. What is truly amazing is that Vivian did not need to be a world leader, politician, or sports figure to be inspiration. She just needed to be Vivian.

Tom, it goes without saying, but your dedication to Vivan through this very difficult time should be an example to all of what it truly means to be married and dedicated to the person that you love. No doubt you would shrug that off and say that you wouldn't have done it any other way, but that does not make the example you set any less remarkable.
May God Bless and comfort you all, and when these difficult days start to fade, always remember that she made a difference.

Love,
The Karle Family

Tom, Kim, Lori, and Tracy,

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. She will always be in my memories as my 2nd mom- I can picture her and my mother laughing til tears came down their cheeks- they are probably at some super shopping extravaganza right now- your mom with her pepsi (maybe she kicked that?) and my mom with her coffee.

There is nothing your mother wouldn't have done for any of us...she was a special lady and I'm glad we were lucky enough to have her in our lives. She lives in each of you. My thoughts are with you during what I know is one of the toughest times of your lives.
