William YOUNGBLOOD Obituary

YOUNGBLOOD, William Alan, 93, of Powhatan, formerly of Richmond, died October 10, 2009. He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Evelyn Louise Brittain Youngblood. He is survived by his two children, Judith Ann Y. Lane and Amy Louise Y. Karnolt; his second wife, Jean S. Youngblood; four stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was born in Sweetwater, Tenn. to Thomas Powell Youngblood and Nora Belle Connor Youngblood. In 1934/35 he began his career as an artist with the Civilian Conservation Corps when the Great Smokey Mountains National Park was created. In the 1970s he retired as art director from Southern States Cooperative devoting the rest of his life to fine art. He was a charter member of the Jack Woodson Sketch Club. A veteran of World War II, he served on Ie Shima Island in the Okinawa Campaign as an Army Air Corps Corporal. Family will receive friends Thursday night, 6 to 8 p.m. at Bennett-Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Highway (Rte. 60) Powhatan. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Providence Presbyterian Church. Interment church cemetery. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

William was a great artist! He had a wonderful smile, and would say the funniest things. Think of all his creations that hang on walls all over the USA. He will be missed, but will not be forgotten.
