William McAlexander Obituary

McALEXANDER, Mr. William Early, age 96, of Meadows of Dan, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at his home. He was the fifth of seven children born to John and Cora Williams McAlexander. He spent more than 30 years working for DuPont in Richmond. Upon his retirement in 1976, he returned to his birthplace and became an active member of the community, the Ruritans and Meadows of Dan Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. In addition to his parents, Mr. McAlexander was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Leota Webb McAlexander; and his son-in-law, Robert Rudd. Mr. McAlexander is survived by two daughters, Frances Elaine Woods and Lucy Lea Rudd; son-in-law, George Woods; four granddaughters, Rebecca Woods and her husband, Jules Weisfeld, Susan Lea Rudd, Jane Ellen Woods Grimes and husband, Charles Andrew Grimes, and Janice Rudd; three great-grandchildren, John Alden Grimes, Campbell Langhorne Grimes and Thomas Early Grimes; and one brother, Joel McAlexander. Funeral services for Mr. McAlexander will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Shockley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home place. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meadows of Dan Baptist Church, 2511 Jeb Stuart Hwy., Meadows of Dan, Virginia 24120.
