BOOKER, James M. Sr., affectionately known as "Jimmy Booker," of Petersburg, passed on January 15, 2013. Jimmy was married to Bertha Norman Booker, formerly of Portsmouth. Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory devoted family and friends. Jimmy was a 1943 graduate of Peabody High School, Petersburg. He served in the Navy and received an honorable discharge in 1946. He taught at the Petersburg Training School and later worked at the U.S. Post Office until he retired in 1985. He served as chairman of the Electoral Board of Petersburg and was a lifetime member of the NAACP. A member of Zion Baptist Church, Petersburg, he was active in many choirs in the Tri-Cities. He was an active member of the 12th District Prince Hall Masons. He received his 50th year pin in 2011 from the Eureka Lodge #15. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Zion Baptist Church, 225 Byrne St., Petersburg, the Rev. Dr. Archie German, interim pastor, officiating and Rev. Dr. Andrew J. White Sr., eulogist. Interment at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery. Family visitation will be held Friday, January 18, 2013 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral establishment.
