Lois M. Higgins, 79, of Hillsboro, died Friday evening June 27, 2014 at Clinton Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 5, 1934 in Cleveland, to the late Benjamin J. and Lenore M. (Hruby) Prucha.
She married James R. Higgins Oct. 23, 1954.
She was a graduate of John Marshall High School in 1952 and The Ohio State University in 1956, majoring in Vocational Home Economics Education and Biological Sciences. She was a member of the Lynchburg United Methodist Church. She taught Home Economics at Marshall and Lynchburg high schools, was a book keeper for the Higgins Construction Company, a Foodservice Manager and Licensed Dietitian for nursing facilities in Clinton and Highland counties. She was a Girl Scout leader, 4-H advisor, taught G.E.D. classes for Highland County Community Action and was the first woman elected to the Lynchburg-Clay School Board.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister Judith (Kemal) Gursal of Fairview Park; three daughters, Cathy (Tom) Wallach of Traverse City, Mich., Sharon Higgins of Lynchburg, Laura Higgins (David Walters) of Des Moines, Iowa; one son David (Brenda) Higgins of Hillsboro, foster son Ernest (Kitty) Collins of Lynchburg; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Ronald J. Prucha.
Friends will be received from 5-6 p.m. with memorial services following Wednesday July 2, 2014 at the Lynchburg United Methodist Church, 285 Pearl St., Lynchburg, with the Rev. David Wirth officiating.
