Martin William Shields, 90, died Friday, April 18, 2014.

He was born Jan. 25, 1924.

Marty "Bill" was born and raised in Columbus. He was a veteran of World War II and a proud retired Columbus firefighter. He loved western movies and rodeo, playing the ukulele, big band music, and a cappella harmony. He danced his way through 68 years of marriage with his love, Ellie.

He was a truly wonderful father and father-in-law to Pam (Mike) Lauffer and Tom (Pam) Shields; a loving grandfather to Brad, Mollee, Marty and Courtney; and a proud great-grandfather. He was loved by his sisters, Lugene and Lorene, his nieces, Nancy, Carolyn, Ann, Becky, Connie and Theresa; and so many wonderful friends and neighbors.

Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 26 at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., at Beecher Rd., Gahanna, where funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. with chaplain Larry Baker and pastor Frank Luchsinger officiating. Inurnment will be at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.

Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Kobacker House, c/o Ohio Health Foundation, 180 E. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio 43215.
