Jeffery A. Merena of Hummelstown, Pa., formerly of Norristown and Reinholds, Pa., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at his home with his loving family by his side after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Born Aug. 18, 1959, in Norristown, Pa., he was the son of the late Michael and Ann Lorraine (Tarsell) Merena.
After finishing from Bloomsburg University, Jeff's career started in the entertainment industry in Scranton, Pa., at the NBC affiliate WNEP 16, where he went on to win many local awards for his work on "PM Magazine" and "PA Outdoor Life" and as the on-air correspondent, aka "Junque Mail Jeff."
Jeff later went on to work for the national networks ESPN, ABC, FOX, TBS, CBS, TNT and NBC. He traveled the world, covering all the major sporting events. He was a two-time Emmy Award
winner for his coverage in the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics and on NFL Sunday Night Football.
Jeff had a way of lighting up any room he walked into. He lived life to the fullest. He loved his friends and family immensely. He will be sorely missed by friends and co-workers who were his family on the road, and by his family at home.
Jeff is survived by his two brothers, Michael T. Merena and Robert (Daina) Merena; three nieces, Casey, Ashleigh and Nicole; two nephews, Michael "Brad" and Kyle; and two aunts, Thomasine and Emily Tarsell.
