Joan M. Valania(1939 - 2014)

Joan M. Valania, age 74, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Foulk Manor South Assisted Living Community in Brandywine Hundred. She was born on June 18, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA, daughter of the late John J. Foley and Mary K. (Sugden) Foley. Joan graduated from the former Saint Mathew's High in Conshohocken, PA in 1958, where she led the marching band in holiday parades and Philadelphia Eagles games at historic Franklin Field, as a baton twirler. Joan was a proud and dedicated homemaker, who along with her husband, Martin, raised their three children. She taught many valuable lessons and morals to her children. Joan worked part time at Miracle Ear in the Concord Mall before retiring in 2002. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family and hosting parties. Most of all, Joan enjoyed times spent with her family at the Jersey shore. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend, Joan will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two sons, Marty and his wife, Jennifer of Newark, DE and Brian and his wife, Veronica of Wilmington, DE; daughter Kelly and her husband Paul Chew of Baltimore, MD; five grandchildren: Kirsten, Michael, and Olivia Valania and Lauren and Julia Chew along with 'brothers' Charles, William and Richard Mullen. A viewing will be held for friends and family on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, 19083, beginning at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Mary Magdalen Church at 10:30 AM.
