Michael Joseph Zappitelli Sr.

Michael Joseph Zappitelli, Sr., D.O., age 91, of 2867 Wimbledon Lane, Lancaster, PA, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2013, at his residence.
Born in Italy, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Josephine Zappitelli and the husband of the late Anna O. Chelyk Zappitelli, who died in March 2000.
Dr. Zappitelli, Sr. retired in 2007 from Mercy Suburban Hospital, Norristown, PA, where he was employed as a radiologist.
He was a graduate of LaSalle College and in 1955 he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II (1943 to 1946) as a Pharmacist's Mate, Third Class, U.S.N.R.
Dr. Zappitelli, Sr. was of the Catholic faith.
He was a member of the Conshohocken Masonic Lodge. Among his many interests were attending Rotary Club meetings, going to the opera, vegetable gardening, maintaining his interest in the medical field and spending time with his grandchildren.
Dr. Zappitelli, Sr. is survived by two sons: Michael J. Zappitelli, Jr., D.O., husband of Maria, of Lancaster; John A. Zappitelli, of Phoenixville, PA; six grandchildren; a sister, Livia Giordano, of Philadelphia and a brother, Anthony Zappitelli, husband of Mary Lou, of Willow Grove, PA survive Dr. Zappitelli, Sr. A brother, Carl preceded him in death.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Dr. Zappitelli's Life Celebration Mass of Christian Burial from Saints Peter and Paul's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 519 Hurst Street at Union Ave., Bridgeport, PA 19405, on Friday, September 20, 2013, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Ronald Popivchak celebrant. Final commendation and farewell in Saints Peter and Paul's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Church Road, King of Prussia, PA. The family will receive friends on Friday at the church from 10:00 AM until time of Mass.
