Donald E. Moore Sr. Obituary
Donald E. Moore, Sr., age 86, of Plymouth Meeting, PA, passed away very peacefully on Monday evening, February 18, 2014 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of Maryanne C. (Conway) Moore and a retired funeral director with Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home and Crematory. Born in Norristown, PA on April 30, 1927, Donald has lived in Plymouth Meeting for the last 15 years. He was formerly of Conshohocken, where he had lived most of his life. He was a lifetime member of St. Matthew's R.C. Church of Conshohocken, PA. He graduated from St. Matthew's Grade School, St. Matthew's High School, Class of 1945 and was a Navy Veteran of World War II. Following his time in the military service, he graduated from Eckels College of Mortuary Science of Philadelphia, PA where he received the Dean's Award in recognition of exceptional achievement in course study. He was a third generation funeral director with Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home and Crematory which was started by his grandfather, Michael F. Moore, in 1888 and is continued today by his son, Donald E. Moore, Jr. He was a former councilman with Conshohocken Borough, a life member of Knights of Columbus #1603 and Member of Fourth Degree Fr. Tomko Assembly #934. He was also a member of the American Legion, Conshohocken Lions Club and professional organizations including the Montgomery County Funeral Directors Association, Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. He enjoyed carpentry and could build anything. He also enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers in his garden. He most enjoyed spending time at the Jersey shore fishing, boating and going to the beach, especially with his family and grandchildren. Donald is survived by his wife, Maryanne Moore of Plymouth Meeting; four daughters, Maryanne C. (Bernard) Brady of Conshohocken, Susan M. Moore of Plymouth Meeting, Kathleen C. (Thomas) Johnstone of Conshohocken and Eileen V. Evans of Ventnor, NJ; a son, Donald (Cindy) Moore of Conshohocken; a sister, Elizabeth (Harry) Bigham of Tequesta, FL; and two brothers, Joseph Moore of Conshohocken and Maurice (Marlene) Moore of Conshohocken. Also survived by ten grandchildren, Adam, Jesse, Dylan, Thomas, Kyle, Ian, Ashley, Michael, Kelly and Kasey and one great-granddaughter, Cadence. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael F. Moore, Jr. and Jane V. (Ryan) Moore and his brother, Michael F. Moore III. His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. from the St. Matthew's R.C. Church, Third & Fayette Streets, Conshohocken, PA. Fr. J. Thomas Heron is officiating. Friends may call on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 300 Fayette Street, Conshohocken, PA. Interment is at St. Matthew's Cemetery, Conshohocken, PA. Contributions may be made in his memory to St. Matthew's R.C. Church, 219 Fayette Street, Conshohocken, PA 19428 or St. Paul's R.C. Church, 2007 New Hope Street, Norristown, PA 19401 or to Montgomery Hospice, 25 West Fornance Street, Norristown, PA 19401.
