Kenneth Ostrowski Obituary

Kenneth F. Ostrowski of Swedesburg passed away on August 4 at Penn Hospice Rittenhouse after a courageous 2 -year long battle with kidney cancer. He was 54 years old. A lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church in Swedesburg, Kenny freely shared his artistic and musical gifts with his parish community. He cantored, sang in the choir and served as soloist for many weddings, funerals and other special occasions. For more than 30 years, he decorated the church for feast days and holidays, creating an environment of beauty and reverence, all for the glory of God. Kenny also volunteered extensively with the church's Polish festival, running the babka stand and jumping in wherever he was needed. Kenny was a member of the Holy Name Society and received their Man of the Year Award in 2012. He had served as President of the choir, Chair of the Arts and Environment Committee, and a member of the Liturgy Committee. In the past, Kenny performed with the Barn Playhouse and the Narberth Community Theatre, and he assisted with costumes and makeup and other backstage activities as well. Professionally, Kenny spent many years as a florist and floral designer. Most recently he worked for Zieger & Sons, Inc. Wholesale Florists (you can still see him in "Kenny's Kooler" segments on Youtube.com), and Plaza Flowers. Kenny had a huge heart and an even bigger personality. On his Facebook page, he calls himself "a very funny, fun loving person that does really nice flower arrangements heheheh. and likes doing it too ..." His family and many friends will miss him greatly. Born December 3, 1958 in Norristown, Kenny was the son of the late John and Florence (Grabowski) Ostroski, Kenny is survived by his sisters Pat (Henry) Michel and Lori (Michael) Roscoe, both of Lancaster County; his nieces Allison (Richie) Shellenberger and Bethany Roscoe, also of Lancaster County; his cousin Judy Vicchio, with whom he lived; his aunts Helen (Walter) Ostroski; Jean (Edward) Ostroski; Marie (Joseph) Ostroski; Mary (Alfred) Ostroski; and Dolores (Walter) Grabowski. Also surviving are numerous cousins and other extended family members. Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral Mass Saturday, August 10, 2013, 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson St., Swedesburg, PA, 19405 and viewing Friday evening August 9 after 6:00 p.m. and Saturday morning from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. at the Bernard S. Gutkowski Funeral Home, 305 Jefferson St., Swedesburg, PA 19405. Interment will be at a later date. Memorial donations in Kenny's name may be made to St. Cecilia's Choir of Sacred Heart Church c/o the above address. www.gutkowskifuneralhome.com

Such a privilege and a pleasure it has been to have known Kenny since our days at SHS. Kenny's gifts and talents made a positive impact on so many lives, more than I believe he even realized. Memories will always bring a smile to my face but for now a tear follows, yet my sadness is a selfish one for Kenny rests in God's hands, free from pain and suffering. My prayers and sympathy to his family and all those he held dear.

I didn't know you personally, Kenny, but I do know your beautiful sister, Lori! I always tell people that the most beautiful Viewing I had ever been to, was your Mother's Viewing, where there were the most beautiful flowers I had ever seen. I prayed for you each week at Perpetual Adoration, I had always hoped you could feel the love and the strength of each prayer. Enjoy your Heavenly Reward,I will keep your Family in my heart and prayers.

There are no words to express the hole in my heart, since the passing of Kenny. Besides all of his talents, he was at the top of my list as the funnies person I ever known. He could just rise an eye brow and the laughter would start.

I am so saddened by the loss of this very unique and special person that once was the light in my world. We had the best time at Bishop Kenrick High School and while I was in college. Kenny was one of my best friends and we enjoyed the times we attended the Valley Forge Music Fair shows. He was the most loving, joyful and funny person that I have ever had the pleasure of spending time with. I have not been back home for many years and have spent more than the last decade in Texas. My deepest sympathy to all the family and friends at this time of their loss.

One of the blessings I received during my time as administrator of Sacred Heart Parish was to get to know Kenny. He had a big heart, loved God and the people of Sacred Heart Parish, and always wanted to serve, even when he wasn't feeling well. He kept pushing himself, and knew that he was not long for this world but dealt with his illness with humor, courage, hope and faith. It will be a privilege to concelebrate his funeral Mass. He will surely be missed.
