I only knew Sam for the last two years but it was great to call him a friend him at the VFW in Cape May. Conversations always centered on Family, Friends, & Fishing. Though such a short period of time, it's like I knew him all his life as he described his enjoyable life and times including his numerous friendly antics. It is fitting that his celebration of life was at the VFW where he enjoyed so much camaraderie. Sam, you will be missed but I'm sure your giving St. Peter fishing lessons.

Sam was a mentor to me as a young lad trying to learn the ropes so to speak of the rigging trade. Sam took me under his wing and I will always be grateful for the knowledge he shared with me. Sam always had soup in his locker and I remember his friend Alvin changing the labels on the cans. I still laugh when I think of the good times. One time I was upset that I was not on a big rigging job and said " what am I, chopped liver." From that day on, Sam called me chopped liver. Some things you never forget. Sorry to hear of his passing.
