Obituary Condolences

Alice M. Scherer (nee McCaughan) of Norristown passed away peacefully at home Tuesday October 9, 2012, after a brief illness. Born September 13, 1923 in Spring Mill, PA., she was the daughter of the late James and Marie (Blake) McCaughan and the beloved wife of the late Horace E. Scherer. Alice was a graduate of Norristown High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She worked as a supervisor for the Bell Telephone Company before "retiring" to raise her family. She was an active member of the Mothers Club of Gwynedd Mercy Academy. She was later employed at Lower Providence Township, for George Moles Real Estate, in the Board of Assessment of Montgomery County and in the local office for State Representative Jackie Crahalla. Alice was a longtime Republican Committeewoman for Lower Providence Township. A founding member of Visitation B.V.M. Parish, she volunteered in the rectory for many years and was a member of the Parish Council. Alice is survived by her children; Horace E. (Kathleen) of Kennett Square, Alice S. Dougherty (Michael) of Lexington Park, MD, Alan T. (Cindy) of Malvern and Carl M. (Megan) of Wayne, 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and her two sisters, Mary Murry of Northridge, CA and Eleanor Gilinger of Trooper. She was preceded in death by her brother James McCaughan. Relatives and friends are invited to a brief reception with Alice's family on Friday October 19, from 8:30 to 9:50 AM at Visitation B.V.M. Church 196 N. Trooper Rd. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 AM at the church. Family services are by Boyd-Horrox of East Norriton 610-277-7000.
