Neil R. Jones Obituary
Neil R. Jones of Norristown Neil R. Jones passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on April 18, 2014, at age 78. Born in Canonsburg, PA on December 29, 1935, Neil was the son of Ruth (Odell) and Benjamin Jones. Neil resided in Norristown with his beloved wife of 46 years, Charlotte M. Jones (nee Daniel). Neil is survived by his children, Bryan Jones, Cheryl Garraty (Robert) and Michelle Jones Wurtz (Jonathan). He was the cherished grandfather of three and was the brother to Ruthelaine Macintyre and Grace Madison. Neil was a 1959 graduate of Northeastern University earning a BS Electrical Engineering. After serving as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, he took graduate courses at Villanova in the '70's. He retired after 30 years from Unisys as a Project Engineer working heavily in statistics. An accomplished trombone player, Neil was the Principal Trombonist representing the U.S. in England in 1965 where he met his bride. He played at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in NYC and was a 20-year season ticket holder of the Phila. Orchestra. Neil was very involved in the Calvary Baptist Church and served on the Worship Team, Board of Deacons, and directed the hand bell choir for 19 years. Neil was an avid reader, funny, and at times known for being sarcastic. Neil's Memorial Service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 801 West Marshall St., Norristown on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Neil's memory may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Living Memorial Fund at the above address. Family Services provided by Boyd-Horrox of Norristown, 1-800-GIVNISH.
