S. Jay Culbert III

Obituary Condolences

S. Jay Culbert III, died on March 29, 2013. Jay was 64 yrs. old, and was an Associate Professor of Business at Montgomery County Community College for 20 years. Jay grew up in Lafayette Hill, attended St. Philip Neri School and graduated from St. Matthew's HS in 1966. He earned a BS degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Marketing at Philadelphia University of Textiles & Sciences and an MBA in Economics and Management at Widener University. After college he worked as an insurance agent for Mutual of New York. While there he earned the National Quality Award, and was named Agent of the Year in 1979. In 1983 he began working as a professor at Montgomery County Community College in the Business and Computer Science Division, and worked there until his untimely death. During his tenure at the College he taught thousands of students, taking great pride in their accomplishments. As a child, he spent his summers in Ocean City, New Jersey, with his grandparents, which fostered his love for the shore and fishing. He continued to vacation at Ocean City throughout his life. Jay loved the beach, but especially Ocean City. He was an avid sports fan-loved the Eagles and the Phillies, but watching college football and basketball was his favorite pastime, especially IUP and Fordham games-his daughter's alma maters. Jay was devoted to his wife, his daughters, and his grandson. He took great pride in his Irish heritage and will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his genuineness, his loyalty, and the warmth of his smile. Cherished husband of Barbara (Antonelli) Culbert. Devoted father of Erica (George Zeleznik) and Jill (Brain Green). Loving grandfather of Finn. Brother of Helene Simpson. Uncle of Scott and Neal. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing in Church Thursday after 10:30 am. followed by his Funeral Mass 12:00 pm at St. Philip Neri Church, 437 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill, Pa. 19444. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
