Sarah L. Cook Obituary
Sarah L. (Slough) Cook, 77, wife of the late Warren N. "Cookie" Cook, died Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Normandy Farms Estates, Whitpain Twp., surrounded by her loving family. She was a longtime resident of Worcester Twp.
Sarah was born on Jan. 7, 1937, in Norristown, and was the only child of the late Nelson B. and Florence R. (Longacre) Slough. She was a 1954 graduate of Norristown High School and a 1955 graduate of Norristown Business College.
In addition to being a homemaker, Sarah was a secretary for C.I. Jamieson & Assocs., a dental assistant to Dr. L.B. Snyder, and a receptionist for Thermalguard Windows.
Sarah was a longtime member of Fairview Village Church of the Nazarene, where she was an organist and pianist, sang in the choir, and played in the hand-bell choir. She was a true example of the volunteer spirit, starting in her early childhood, and continuing throughout the rest of her life. This list includes playing piano for all of her school assemblies, working in the school library, being a Girl Scout Leader, playing for the children's choirs, and then as a resident of Normandy Farms immersed herself in the lives of her fellow residents. Sarah especially cherished her volunteer work at the Worcester Historical Society. In addition to her love of music, she enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.
Sarah is survived by her children, Andrew W. Cook, New Hanover Twp., Martha L., wife of Paul Berger, Lower Providence Twp., and Elaine R., wife of Gary Waddell, Freeport; seven grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview Village Church of The Nazarene, 3044 West Germantown Pike, Eagleville, PA 19403. Her burial will be private. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Holcombe Funeral Home, Inc., 21 Main St., Trappe, PA 19426, and from 10-10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Worcester Historical Society, P.O. Box 112, Worcester, PA 19490; or the Worcester Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 1, Worcester, PA 19490.
