Howaard Custer Jr. Obituary
Howard Custer Jr., of Norristown, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2014 at his home in West Norriton with his family in attendance. Mr. Custer was 80 years old, and was the loving husband of 43 years to the late Mary E. Custer. Born on January 29, 1934 in Conshohocken PA, a son to the late Howard (Sr.) and Alice (Morris) Custer. Howard was a veteran of the US Army stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was a retired Post Master having spent over 30 years with the US Postal Service in roles that included Letter Carrier, Supervisor, and Post Master. For the majority of his life he volunteered within the community in roles with Fire Police for Jeffersonville Fire Company and the Worcester Volunteer Fire Department as well as volunteering with West Norriton Ambulance, West Norriton Little League and the Boy Scouts. He was also a member of the Freemasons. Throughout his life he was an avid dog enthusiast raising, training, and showing dogs. He was a member of the Suburban Dog Training Club, Keystone Dock Dogs, and the Lenape Tracking club. Howard is survived by a daughter, Lynne Custer and her partner, Kimberley Gibson and their daughter Josephine of Lower Pottsgrove; and a son, David and his wife, Sharan and their sons Danveer and Roshan of Herndon, Virginia. A brother-in-law also survives him, Robert Hendrickson of Princeton, N.J.; and nieces, Karen Lankapali, Susan Hendrickson; and nephew, Douglas Hendrickson. Relatives and friends are invited to participate in Howard's life celebration service that will be held at the Boyd-Horrox Funeral Home of East Norriton, 200 West Germantown Pike on Friday, May 9 from 6 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at 9:00 AM at the Holy Spirit Anglican Church, 1133 West Orvilla Road, Hatfield PA with the Rev'd Robert Tufton, rector of Holy Spirit Anglican Church officiating. There will be no viewing Saturday morning. Burial will be in the Limerick Garden of Memories in Limerick following the church service. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family has requested that a donation in his honor be made to American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
