Reverend Vincent F. Welsh, 50, pastor of SS. Peter and Paul Parish, West Chester, died on Friday, May 16, 2014, at his parent's home in East Norriton, Pa.
Father Welsh was born on Oct. 4, 1963, in Holy Redeemer Hospital, Meadowbrook, Pa. He is the son of James J. Welsh and Patricia A. Dieckhaus Welsh of East Norriton, Pa.
Father Welsh attended Visitation B.V.M. Parochial School, Trooper, and Bishop Kenrick High School, Norristown, before entering St. Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Father Welsh was ordained on May 20, 1989, at the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, Pa., by His Eminence Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua. Father Welsh served as parochial vicar, St. Christopher Parish, Philadelphia, and St. Monica Parish, Philadelphia. He attended studies at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., earning his licentiate in canon law.
He served in the Office of the Metropolitan Tribunal, Office of the Chancellor and as assistant director in the Office for Clergy. Father Welsh served as pastor of St. Philip Neri Parish, Philadelphia; St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Norristown; and in July 2012 he was appointed pastor, of SS. Peter and Paul Parish, West Chester.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his siblings, James J. Welsh Jr. and his wife, Maureen, of Lafayette Hill, Pa., Mary Chris Little and her husband, Dr. Paul, Lancaster, Pa., Stephen A. Welsh and his wife, Betty, of East Norriton, Pa., Rev. Patrick J. Welsh, of East Norriton, Pa., and Dr. Michael A. Welsh and his wife, Megan of Malvern, PA; 13 nieces and nephews; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
The Transferal and Reception of Father Welsh will be held 4 p.m. Mon. May 19, 2014, at SS. Saints Peter and Paul Church, 1325 Boot Road, West Chester, Pa., followed by a Vigil Service and a viewing. A parish Mass will be celebrated 7 p.m. Mon. at the church.
Another viewing will be held at SS. Peter & Paul Church from 9 a.m. -10:45 a.m. Tues., May 20, 2014. The Most Rev. Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap., archbishop of Philadelphia, will celebrate the funeral Mass for Father Welsh 11 a.m. Tues. May 20, 2014, at the Church. Concelebrating the funeral Mass will be his brother and homilist, Rev. Patrick J. Welsh, and uncles Rev. Joseph C. Dieckhaus and Rev. Anthony W. Dieckhaus.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, Pa.
