Arthur Surman Obituary
Arthur J. "Jack" Surman III passed away peacefully on May 24, 2014 at age 72. Jack was born in Philadelphia on June 8, 1941 and was the son of Jeanette (Bishop) and Arthur J. "Charlie" Surman Jr. He resided in Bridgeport, Pa. with Helen T. (Keller) Surman, his beloved wife of 29 years. They met singing in a Christmas concert at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Lafayette Hill, Pa.
Jack was the loving father of Arthur (Marcelina), Stephen (Laurie), Kenneth, Nicole and cherished grandfather of Janel, Tara, Colin, Jonah, Chaz, David, Melissa, Jerry, Emma, Jaime, and great grandfather of Samuel. He was the dear brother of Dottie (Philip), Virginia (Alan), Marilyn, and Beverly, widow of his late brother James. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Jack graduated from Germantown High School and proudly served our country as a US Marine. Jack started his singing as a boy soprano at the age of 8. His musical career as a tenor included the Main Line Reform Temple quartet for 40 years, the Philadelphia Oratorio Choir, and a tenor soloist at numerous churches including Chambers Wiley Presbyterian, St. Luke, St. Christopher and All Saints Episcopal.
Relatives and friends are invited to Jack's Life Celebration at Boyd-Horrox of Norristown, 200 W. Germantown Pike on Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 6-8 p.m., and again Friday, May 30 from 9-9:50 a.m. Jack's Funeral Service will begin at 10 a.m. followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack's memory may be made to Norriton Presbyterian Church, 608 N. Trooper Road, Norristown, PA 19403.
