Eleanor Boylan Obituary
Eleanor M. Boylan (nee Bernacki) of Oreland, formerly of Philadelphia and Bensalem, passed away peacefully on Thursday Feb. 13, 2014. She was 89 years old.
Born May 7, 1924, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Ignatius and Mathilda (nee Keintzel) Bernacki and the beloved wife of the late John Boylan Jr., with whom she shared 36 years of marriage.
A devoted wife and mother throughout her life, Eleanor was also a working mom. During World War II she worked at the Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia and contributed to the manufacturing of periscope and bomb sight lenses for the military. She later worked for many years as a data entry analyst at Curtis Publishing and Independence Blue Cross, retiring from formal employment in 1985.
She never retired from being a mom. Her family was her primary interest by far. She was always interested in what they were doing, where they were going, and why they hadn't called sooner. She loved fishing, cooking and traveling. She was famous for her fried chicken, pierogies, gwumpkies, stuffing, and oatmeal-raisin cookies . . . and for standing by the stove during meals just in case somebody wanted more of anything. She traveled throughout her life including many summers in Wildwood, N.J., as well as vacations and visits with her children to Florida, California, New Orleans, Israel, Spain and the Bahamas.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Joan Werc (Kaz); her three sons, John Boylan III (Ruth), James Boylan (Rosemary) and Michael Boylan (Grace); 13 grandchildren and spouses, Julie & Kevin Cleary, Cynthia Werc and (fiancé) Brian Morris, Jennifer & Mario D'Amelio, Wendy & Frank Morelli, John & Stephanie Boylan, James & Johanna Boylan, Katie Boylan, Amelia Boylan, Molly Boylan, Michael & Karen Boylan, Maureen & Stan Rogers, Meghan & Joe Davidson, MaryKate Boylan; 13 great-grandchildren, Shane, Regan & Kelly Cleary, Lily, Daniel & Colin Morelli, Abigail, James & Peter Boylan, Colin McDonough, Chase & Avery Boylan, Olivia Boylan.
She was preceded in death by her beloved grandson Rick Werc; and her siblings, Helen Myers, Virginia Bereznuk, Walter Bernacki, and Victor Bernacki.
Relatives and friends are invited to share in Eleanor's Life Celebration service on Wednesday, Feb. 19, from 7- 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 8 to 9:15 a.m. at Boyd-Horrox of East Norriton, 200 West Germantown Pike, 610-277-7000.
