Joe Capone Obituary

Joe Capone died on February 8, 2014 in California. Joe was born May 19, 1955, growing up in Audubon, Pa. His parents were Joseph and Yolanda (Piermarini) Capone. He attended St. Teresa of Avila grade school, Archbishop Carroll High School, and Merrimack College, near Boston, Massachusetts. As a youth, he competitively played baseball, soccer, and ice hockey through his high school years, with one year on the college hockey team, followed by three years of club hockey. Ice hockey was his passion, as a goalie since the age of eight, and he was still playing hockey in a men's league in California through the age of 57. Joe moved to Sacramento, Ca. at the age of 27, being promoted to a sales management position while with the U.S. Gypsum Chemical Division. In 1986, he met and married the love of his life, Jann Blazona. He eventually moved on to other outside sales stints in the construction industry, spending the last fourteen years with Garland Industries. Joe was a top performer, and as with all his endeavors, extremely well liked and a valuable team member. Joe came from a large extended Italian- American family, boasting 20 first cousins. He was very proud of his heritage. Beyond hockey, Joe was an avid reader, wine enthusiast and wine maker, occasional bocce player and fisherman, and remained a loyal follower of the Philadelphia sports teams. Joe was a cheese steak aficionado of the highest order (provolone with) and was rumored to have seen Bruce Springsteen over 50 times in concert. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jann , an older brother David (Ginny) of Collegeville several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, who all saw Joe as both a favorite uncle and valuable mentor in their lives. Services are being held Saturday, February 22, 11:30 a.m. at Augustus Lutheran Church, 717 West Main Street, Trappe, Pa. 19426. Rest in Peace, dear Joe. I was stunned and so very sad to learn of your death. I'm not sure what prompted me today to look thru our Merrimack College yearbook but when I saw your photo and handsome face staring back at me, I wanted to check online for your current whereabouts. I found what was unbelievable to me…your OBITUARY. You were always so full of life and laughter; I cannot believe you're gone. I will always remember your big heart, generous spirit, and strong, always strong value of family and friends. You were the real deal…kind, caring, genuine, a decent, honorable guy. As my grandmother would say, you were good, like “buono come il pane”. Holding you in loving memory, and sending deepest sympathy and prayers of strength to your family. Love, Cathy

I knew Joe through senior ice hockey since I moved west from MA in 1990. I was just doing my yearly Snoopy Senior Tournament calls when I heard the news of Joe's passing. Great guy, strong values a lot of fun and willing to stand up for what he believed in. my favorite memory is calling him late one night on my first visit to Philadelphia around 2006. I was looking for the best Italian restaurant to get a cup of coffee and a cannoli. I was not let down!

Joe, we will be thinking of you and salute you at this year's tournament.

Dear Dave,Ginny,Jann,Gabe,Bryan,& kate,
It seems so very hard to believe that you are gone dear friend. So many years passed and you were always the same Joe Capone. From the time you were Dave's younger brother. And we were walking through the snow to watch you play ice hockey. So strong and amazing. To the man you had become. Strong, Caring and kind. Still a truly wonderful person. Time moves on, I was raising 2 children and you were in California with your lovely wife Jann.I always looked forward to your holiday visits to Dave and Ginny's. Even though far away, when we spoke it was like yesterday. You were still the Joe Capone I had always known. Family & friends meant so much to you. You showed great strength until the end. You will be missed Joe,and always remembered. It is so very hard for those left behind. But you are at peace. Thank you for all the years of friendship, caring, your sense of humor, a lifetime of laughter. You and your brother Dave could always bring tears of laughter to my eyes in a heart beat.It seems to soon, to short, your life, and we wonder why. We can, reminisce, cry, laugh, and know you will always be near by.You gave wonderful memories to all those who knew you. Our hearts and thoughts are with you Dave, Ginny, Jann, and all the Capone family. Know that you are not alone remembering a truly wonderful man that meant so much to so many. Love, Nancy,Rick, Jena, and Gordon.

John and I can't tell you how shocked and saddened we were to learn of Joe's passing. He was much too young to die and we know how difficult this time must be for you. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. I hadn't seen Joe since he was about 9 or 10, but I'll always remember the fun we had at the pool, when our parents would get together for an afternoon of swimming and socializing. They are very fond memories of mine. All our love and deepest sympathy, John DiNenna and Patty (DiNenna) Tokonitz.
